English Opens Doors

Hello all,

Thought we’d better keep up our blogging or we’ll forget for another month so here’s our update. We had lunch with a sniper today, which of course Adrienne loved. The job I’m NOT doing where I’m NOT teaching the army is throwing up some good contacts. Don't mess with me I have powerful friends. Adrienne’s TV ad is showing daily and she is now a minor celebrity in the area. Still makes me laugh out loud every time. We met a guy called Dave who of course is in security – our first other ex-pat. Apparently he lives 200m away. I guess we just don’t get out much. Seems nice enough but there must be something wrong with him to live out here. Got some tickets to head on home (to Canada that is) in September – Ade’s daily walking around singing “I’m going home I’m going home” which is pretty annoying. I met the governor the other day in the swimming pool. Speedos are a great leveller. Our kids (the oompah loompahs (I mean the Indonesians)) are fine. One of them is meeting her boyfriend today so is pretty hyper – it’s actually against the rules for them to have a boyfriend or in fact even to talk to boys as they are virtual slaves here, but we of course are saying nothing. The school work has settled down somewhat so we don’t have to work our £%^^ off all the time, which is nice. We’re desperately trying to spend money but there’s nothing to spend it on here. You can buy a lot of tea for a dollar. There was a big attack in the North of Iraq on Saturday so I just want to let you all know it was nowhere near here – all’s quiet here. We’re definitely not complacent but we still feel very safe.

So that’s about that – love you guys out there,

Cheers,

Alex
