Chaos and Mayhem - as usual

Hi guys,

It's been a chaotic week or so here in Lala land - nice to get back into a normal routine! We've actually been able to get stuck into some work and perversely we are really enjoying it! As usual though, it hasn't been smooth sailing.

We always thought the other teacher here, Helen, was a bit loopy, but this week we found out just how mad she was. We're contracted to work 24 hours a week (normal for teaching) and she's been teaching the grand total of 6 per week. Rather than revelling in her free time and being grateful it turns out she claimed 19 hours overtime for the last month!! This on top of having a massive argument with her boss and just being generally psycho. Even Adrienne can't get on with her and she likes everyone! Our bosses, Dr. Kamel and Rasheda are very very good people and they've bent over backwards for us and her. It all came to a head last week and they had a big meeting. The upshot of it was that Helen had decided to leave and Kamel and Rasheda bizarrely agreed to pay her the "overtime". Even then, instead of being happy that she had stolen that money, she tried to claim a months worth of wages!! All hell let loose and the upshot was she's out on her ear. What really pissed us off was how much it affected Rasheda and Kamel - both really stressed and wondering if it was their fault when they'd done everything possible to help her.

We're both teaching now but of course Adrienne's doing more than me. She has 20 hours and I have 8! This'll change soon, honestly....

In the midst of all the Helen Wars we came up with an idea to improve the school by changing the system quite dramatically - not a new idea but one we've seen work in other schools. This involved a big upheaval also what with student meetings, planning etc etc so that's kept us all busy. Nothing is helped by the intermittent electricity supply and 40 degrees temps!

We bought bikes a couple of days ago - China really makes some dodgy products - and plan to bike every day. The only problem is that to avoid the heat we have to be up at 6 - aaaaaaargh. Not a problem for me, I love mornings, but Adrienne does complain a lot.

Anyhoo, that's us for now, cheers all!!

Alex and Adrienne

Hi there,
Aren't people wonderful? There's no way of knowing what will happen next when there are people around!
Glad to hear you are getting to do something especially good for the school. They are blessed to have you.
We love you and are proud of you.
